John Suchanak
Soldier John Suchanak spent quality time with his wife and five children Memorial Day weekend.
He said it didn’t matter how they spent their time in Grand County as long as they were together.
“We are just going to enjoy family time together,” Suchanak said.
The family’s trip was sponsored by Operation Vacation, a non-profit organization with the mission of reuniting soldiers and family members on free vacations to Colorado resorts.
This was Suchanak’s first trip to Grand County, an area he said is beautiful with a nice community and people.
He enjoyed his time with wife Eve and children Bjorn, 12; Zaire, 11; Jonah, 9; Dougherty, 8; and Indigo, 6.
Suchanak is a native of Fields, La. He is stationed at Fort Carson and has been a member of the active Army for four years. He’s been deployed in Iraq.
“I felt bad for Iraq’s extent of poverty and quality of living,” he said.
He said the United States is “blessed.” The best part of his job is “being able to fight for our freedom,” Suchanak added.
